The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office searching for a male suspect who they say sexually battered a woman in front of her child in a wooded area near a shopping plaza in Bartram Park.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is searching for a male suspect who they say sexually battered a woman in front of her child in a wooded area near a shopping plaza in Bartram Park.

JSO Assistant Chief Scott Dingee said the incident was called into 911 just before 6 p.m. The woman had finished shopping and was pushing her child, who is younger than 1 year old, in a stroller through the parking lot.

Dingee said a man driving a gray 4-door Honda with a "bad" window tinting job was "catcalling" the woman and she continued walking through the parking lot and ignoring him.

The woman, Dingee said, was walking through a wooded path to get to her house. The man then stopped his car and continued yelling at her while she was in the woods and out of sight of the public.

Dingee said the man then followed the woman into the woods and sexually battered her in front of her child. The child is OK and with family members, Dingee said.

The man is described as mixed race, light skinned, possibly Hispanic or black, is 5'8"-5'9" and has short, straight black hair, brown eyes and was wearing long gray pants. Dingee said the man was described as having a muscular build and may have scratches on his face.

Anyone with any information on the suspect or vehicle is asked to contact JSO at (904) 630-0500.
