Third transgender woman shot in Jacksonville during pride month, JSO investigating

A transgender woman was the victim of a shooting that occurred today on the 8300 block of Dix Ellis Trail, she appeared to be in her 20's, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO announced Monday afternoon that the victim's birth name is 24-year-old Donald Christopher James.

She was identified as a transgender woman by local sources, although her identity has not yet been released.

This is the fourth incident involving a transgender woman this year, the lone surviving victim feels as though they are being targeted.

JSO says they responded to a call shortly after 1 p.m. and found the victim shot, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue confirmed the person was deceased and JSO homicide was called in.

So far the only suspect information police have is that they were possibly driving a beige vehicle, JSO says.
