JSO: Live World War II explosive found near San Marco

The situation is under control and the area is safe.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An active explosive device was found laying on the ground off 3600 Beach Boulevard.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says, just before midnight Thursday, officers were in Spring Park and discovered the device. The Hazardous Device Unit retrieved it, calling it “a World War II era piece of ordinance.”

The unit removed the device and will destroy it at another location they deem safe.
