Father and daughter shot in Westside, suspect(s) on the run

A 39-year old man and his 14-year-old daughter are in a local hospital after being shot at the Cross Creek Apartments in Hyde Park. Police are enlisting the help of the community in finding the person(s) responsible.

Police tell Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson the man was shot once in the chest and the girl was shot once in the right leg. Both are expected to survive.

“It's terrifying,” said Veronica Horne, who lives in Cross Creek Apartments.

Police tell Nelson they’re reviewing surveillance footage and gathering additional witness statements to determine who’s responsible for the shooting and why it happened.

Officers say they asked the who man was shot if there was any indication as to why the shooting happened.

“He was unable to provide me any information,” said Lt. Chris King, with the Jacksonville Sherrif's Office.

“Bullets coming through the window,” said Horne, who tells us she heard as many as six gunshots. “A bullet came through my window one night.”
