The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has found the car it says was involved in a fatal hit and run crash on Beach Boulevard.
34-year-old Summer Black’s family is offering an extra $2,000 in reward money to find out who killed her and then drove off early Sunday morning.
JSO said Black was riding a bicycle eastbound on the 9800 block of Beach Boulevard, which is near Southside Boulevard.
Black’s family told Action News Jax she was bicycling home from a friend’s house.
JSO said a driver hit Black from behind and drove away.
On Tuesday, JSO said it found the Brown Kia Rio investigators believe was involved, thanks to a tip from the community.
Action News Jax asked police who found the car and where, but JSO said they’re not releasing any more information to the public for now because the investigation is active.
“I would hit a dog, or I would hit a cat, and I would stop. But for a person to hit a human being and not stop to see if they were OK is beyond belief,” said Black’s mother Charlotte St. John.
If you have any information about this crash, JSO asks you to call 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
Black was on her way home from a friend’s house Sunday morning when a driver hit and killed her before leaving the scene.
Charlotte St. John, Black's mother, said it was one of the most devastating times of her life after she learned her daughter had been killed.
“She was a very happy, outgoing child. My biggest thing is I can forgive possibly an accident, but we cannot and won’t accept somebody being left by the side of the road,” St. John said.
