JSO searching for missing man released from hospital in June

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local family is in a desperate search for a man who disappeared from an area hospital.

Frank Brown, 52, has been missing since June, and his family says the hospital made a mistake when they released him.

The family tells Action News that Baptist Hospital has made several excuses while trying to explain what happened to a man that has been missing for more than a month.

Attorney Robert Gibson says June 3 was the last day anybody saw Frank Brown.  Gibson said Brown was a patient here at Baptist Memorial that day he was dismissed.

Gibson says his mother and his brother went to the hospital to pick him up from the 8th floor.

"They waited, and an hour has gone by and he wasn't presented at the front door at that time," Gibson said. "They made inquiries and nobody seems to know what happened to Mr. Brown. There was a custodial duty with the hospital and the patient that at first blush seems like it's been breached."

In this police report, it states, "According to hospital records, the victim was discharged at 1919 hours. The victim was last seen leaving the hospital on foot after he was discharged."

But Gibson says that's not what happened. He says Brown's family was waiting outside the front entrance and never saw Brown. They also claim the hospital gave them multiple stories on Brown's whereabouts.s.

Brown is 6’1’’ with brown eyes and black hair. He weighs about 150 pounds. If you have any information about Brown’s location, call JSO at 904-630-0500.

Baptist Medical Center released the following statement:

For the care and safety of our patients, once a physician order has been verified we contact the patient and/or caregiver of an impending discharge. Before release, the patient and/or caregiver are also provided a copy of discharge instructions regarding their future medical care needs.  Patients have the option of being escorted to their mode of transportation.

On June 3, Frank Brown was in good condition when he was discharged from Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville.  Baptist is cooperating with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office regarding their investigation.  It is our sincere hope that he returns safely to his family.
