Jury selection begins in Pedro Bravo trial

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — Nearly 2 years after the slaying of Christian Aguilar, jury selection begins Monday for the man accused of killing and dumping his body in a wooded area.

Pedro Bravo goes on trial in Alachua County. The 20-year-old is charged with kidnapping and killing Aguilar.

Aguilar was a freshman at the University of Florida in 2012 and just 18 years old. The two were last seen together walking into a Best Buy in September 2012, and it was the night Aguilar disappeared.

Police charged Bravo with murder when he told police he beat Aguilar up and left him in a parking lot.

One month later, two hunters found Aguilar's remains about 20 miles outside of Cedar Key.

Bravo is accused of poisoning and killing Aguilar.

Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty in the case. Bravo could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
