‘Let them fly': Mayor gives order to permanently fly military flags in Hemming Park

Jacksonville's Mayor Lenny Curry said "let them fly” in a Wednesday night tweet ordering his staff to start the process of permanently flying the flags of all five branches of the military.

Local mom Sabrina Brooks said she loves the idea.

“There’s nothing wrong with showing support of our nation, so I think it’s an awesome job,” said Brooks.

Brooks said she comes from a military family, so for her, the addition of the flags, was welcome news.

“It represents all the people who sacrificed their lives for this country,” said Brooks.

On Twitter, several people applauded the move and thanked the mayor.

A city spokesperson said they’re still working on options on how to display the flags in Hemming Park and haven’t decided on a timeline for the installation yet.

Brooks said the flags show local veterans that Jacksonville cares about them.

“Just saying thank you and showing our appreciation,” said Brooks.
