Local journalists going on strike

Jacksonville, Fla. — The Times-Union NewsGuild plans to go on strike Tuesday, joining hundreds of other union-represented journalists at Gannett, the newspaper’s parent company.

The union claims Gannett has cut jobs and frozen wages, not giving its members raises in five years.

In a news release, the NewsGuild said the strikes happening across the country are the largest collective action Gannett employees have taken.
