Original story: Students across the nation, including Jacksonville area schools, are planning to walk out of class Wednesday to honor the 17 victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre.
March 14 will make one month to the day since the shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Students at River City Science Academy have organized a walkout to honor those victims.

Student Lauren Byrd said they’ll line up in 17 rows and read biographies of the victims at 10 a.m.

“When you’re sitting on the couch and you see this kind of stuff happen in other states, it’s like well there’s nothing we could do about it, but when it’s so close to us, it’s hard for us to sit here and think it’ll never happen to us, because they were thinking the same thing,” Byrd said.

“As a school, we really did feel it was important that we give students this opportunity to express themselves, especially in what has been a difficult, confusing time for them,” said RCSA employee Sarah Niss.
Bishop Kenny High School will hold a school-wide prayer service and it encourages people to pause and join them.
Duval County Public Schools and the St. Johns County School District tell Action News Jax they’ve been working with their students.

They said no one walking out will be disciplined or marked tardy if they’re following the rules set by their individual schools.
Nassau and Putnam County schools will have authorized activities on school grounds.
Clay County is on spring break.
