Local toddler hears clearly for first time with support of local foundation

A local 3-year-old who is deaf received the gift of sound through the support of a local foundation.

Mikayla has struggled to fully hear the world around her since she was born. Her hearing challenges have delayed her speech and have kept her from many of the activities that other children her age are able to enjoy.

Her mother, Sjade Robinson, told us her daughter has already overcome so much adversity.

“She would get frustrated trying to communicate because either myself or kids at school didn’t understand her,” Robinson said.

The Miracle-Ear Foundation gifted Mikayla with state-of-the-art hearing aids and lifetime care. When she put on her hearing aids and they were activated she responded to the music playing on her mom’s cellphone.

“She loves music and for her to love music, now I know she can sing the words to the songs,” Robinson said.

Her body language says it all when she’s dancing to music.

“It’s been joy. Unspeakable joy for my daughter to actually be able to hear me,” Robinson exclaimed.

A defining moment that this mom credits this nonprofit for giving her daughter a bright future ahead. Her daughter has a profound loss in one ear and a moderate loss in the other.

“For me, I’d say thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving my daughter a chance to be able to hear,” Robinson said.

Her new hearing aids are providing her with life’s great gift – a gift of sound. Her mom believes now her daughter can accomplish anything she puts her mind to.
