Local WWII Veteran Receives Special Surprise from Tiger Woods

Veterans Day surprise - 102-year-old veteran surprised by Tiger Woods

Jacksonville, FL. — 102-year-old Sollie Mitchelle is the oldest living WWII veteran not only in Jacksonville but in the state of Florida.

On Wednesday at the Times Union Center the U.S. Army veteran received a special message during Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s veterans day breakfast from one of his favorite golfers.

It was from none other than Tiger Woods.

“I’m very very excited,” Mitchelle said.

In a special video dedicated to Mitchelle Woods thanked the veteran for his service and for what he did to for his country.

During the 2020 Players Championship back in March, Mitchelle was hoping to get his hat autographed by his favorite golfers on Military Appreciation Day, but because of COVID-19 that was all put on hold.

The Players Championship team arranged to have his hat signed and today they presented him with an autographed hat and a plaque.

“I just want to thank them from the bottom of my heart,” Mitchelle said.

Mitchelle was also featured in this year’s Veterans Day Parade in downtown Jacksonville.
