JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - An arrest has been made regarding a crash in Jacksonville Beach that left a man dead in July. Police said they arrested Joshua Lovingood in Ohio.
He will be extradited back to Florida and faces the following charges:
- Driving under the influence manslaughter
- Vehicular homicide
- Driving under the influence with damage
- Driving under the influence with injury
- Driving while license suspended or revoked
Lovingood allegedly struck two pedestrians on 2nd St. North in Jacksonville Beach with his car on July 11 just before midnight, killing Bryn Turner at the scene. The other pedestrian, Julio Gomez, is still recovering from his serious injuries.
Police say both of them were walking when they were hit by Lovingood, who, police say was going well over twice the speed limit. After hitting them, Lovingood kept driving down 2nd Street North and hit a stop sign and a palm tree, causing the car to flip.
Police drew his blood at the scene because of suspension of him being under the influence of alcohol. Results reveal his blood alcohol content was .228 and there was also THC found in his system. The Jacksonville Beach Police Department said they obtained an arrest warrant through the State Attorney's Office and Lovingood was arrested Wednesday in Ohio.
The attorney for the survivor sent the following statement:
