Man arrested in St. Johns County car burglary may be linked to about 10 other cases

Brandon Hicks, 36, of St. George, Ga.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A Georgia man has been arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary and dealing in stolen property in St. Johns County, but investigators believe he could be connected to around 10 other burglaries in their jurisdiction alone.

Brandon Hicks, 36, of St. George, Georgia, is accused of burglarizing a car in St. Johns County and stealing the victim’s wallet. His arrest report says he was seen on surveillance video just a few hours later at a Walmart store, trying to use a credit card that belonged to the burglary victim. He was also allegedly seen on surveillance video using the card at a gas station in Jacksonville.

Additionally, investigators say Hicks recently met with St. Johns County deputies for what he thought was a computer sale that he arranged online. Investigators say the computer he was trying to sell had actually been stolen from a vehicle in Duval County.

The arrest report says Hicks admitted to breaking into several vehicles on the night of the St. Johns County burglary and stealing several items. He also allegedly admitted to knowing the computer was stolen, although he said a friend of his steals items and he helps sell them to then split the profit.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says Hicks may be connected to around 10 other burglaries in the northwest part of the county. We’re told he’s also being investigated for crimes that occurred in other jurisdictions, including Jacksonville.

At this time, Hicks has been arrested in St. Johns County on suspicion of third-degree felony burglary, second-degree felony dealing in stolen property and first-degree misdemeanor petit theft. SJSO says more charges are expected.
