Man convicted in 2012 drug deal murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 37-year-old man was convicted in a 2012 murder Thursday.

Jamie Lynn Meekins was found guilty of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Meekins and Rodney Stone, 28, were engaged in a drug deal when Meeking shot Stone twice in the head, according to prosecutors.

Officials say he crashed a car with Stone lying dead in the front seat at the corner of Philips Highway and Olevia Street.

Meekins got out of the car, and left the scene in a truck, officials say.

Officers spotted the truck and pulled it over in a traffic stop, according to prosecutors.

They found the gun used to shoot and kill Stone. Officers also found Stone’s blood on the defendant.

Meekins could serve life in prison.  He will be sentenced the week of Sept. 15.
