Man facing charges after being accused of sexually assaulting woman in St. Augustine bathroom

A man is facing charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in downtown St. Augustine public bathroom.

St. Augustine police said a woman was sexually assaulted inside a public restroom in historic downtown St. Augustine.

The alleged assault happened in the early evening Wednesday, in a public bathroom near the intersection of Hypolita and St. George Streets.

A city employee told police she was able to lock the suspect inside until deputes arrived on scene.

According to the report obtained by Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson, the employee and witness told police she had seen the suspect, Timothy James Lambert, 29, and the victim, having sex in the restroom.

The report states the victim was heavily intoxicated, unconscious on the floor and had to be shaken by a police officer for her wake up. Officers say the victim did not know where she was at first.

Police say they asked the victim if she knew Lambert was having sex with her, to which she replied “no.” She then told police she would never have sex with him.

The report goes on to read Lambert was read his rights. Police say they asked Lambert if he had sex with the victim to which he replied, ‘no, never.’ He was arrested moments later by police.

According to the St. Johns County jail records, Lambert is in jail and charged with felony sexual assault. He is being held on $100,000 bond. Jail records also indicate he is homeless.
