Man officially charged with murder in Middleburg mother's killing

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The man accused in the stabbing death of Middleburg mother Roseann Welsh on Monday night has officially been charged with murder.

Donald Davidson, 34, is now charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted sexual battery and one count of armed burglary, according to Clay County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Mary Justino.

Justino said the level of the murder charge will be determined by the State Attorney's Office.

The new charges are in addition to charges Davidson was already facing; capital sexual battery, grand theft and kidnapping. Davidson is also accused of kidnapping Welsh's 10-year-old daughter, who was found safe Monday night as deputies were investigating Welsh's murder.

Davidson led law enforcement on a manhunt from Monday night into early Tuesday morning, when he was pulled over on Blanding Boulevard while driving the Welsh family's van. According to a CCSO report, Davidson was found to have "a folding Buck knife" in his possession.

Davidson's first appearance for the new charges will take place Friday morning at the Clay County Courthouse.
