JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Matthew Luke Fromknecht, 34, was riding a motorized bicycle was he was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning in Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded around 6 a.m. to a crash on Old Plank Road.
Fromknecht was listed as a registered sex predator in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database. His address as listed as "transient" and "Silver Street, Jacksonville." In 2005, he was convicted of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under the age of 12.
The crash investigation closed a portion of Old Plank Road between Heritage Estates and Chaffee Road until 9 a.m. Traffic was temporarily rerouted to Old Plank Road to Pinebrook Drive, to Halsema Road, and then to Beaver Street.
JSO said Fromknecht appeared to be in the center of the lane. The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer was also traveling in the same lane and hit the bicycle from behind.
Fromknecht died at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of the Trailblazer was not injured and remained at the scene.
JSO said there is no indication that alcohol or drugs as factors in the crash. However, detectives have not yet determined if speed was a factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
