Man puts Nike merchandise in his pants, steals items from St. Augustine outlet location, SJSO says

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Palatka resident, Daryan James Alexander, 32, on theft charges after he allegedly stole $164.95 worth of Nike merchandise from a St. Augustine Nike outlet location, SJSO says.

Nike employees said they witnessed Alexander walk into the store and begin browsing the merchandise They said he took multiple items of clothing off the sale rack and placed them inside his pants, before walking out the door, passing all final points of sale, according to the police report.

Alexander then allegedly placed the merchandise in the back seat of his car and returned to the store to attempt to steal more, police say. Employees then contacted law enforcement and mall security.

The Sheriff's Office made contact with Alexander, who later confessed that he took the items. He gave consent for law enforcement to search his car, and police found five clothing items, all with the tags still on.

According to police, Nike management said they would like to pursue charges.
