A man is being treated for a gunshot wound to the stomach – as the man accused of shooting him talks with police.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Ice Lounge in Moncrief, just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

“And hopefully the guy that got shot will be alright,” an employee at the lounge said. She told Action News Jax that the victim is a regular customer.

“He doesn’t come in and start any trouble. He just comes in and has a good  time,” she said.

But this time was different. The bartender, who doesn’t want to share her name, said a man came in before the shooting.

“(He) said they were from Texas. They were drunk,” she said.

She said the man left, but came back and started shooting outside the lounge, hitting a victim in the stomach. She said the man seemed to be trying to start a fight.

Police said around 150 people were outside the lounge when the shooting happened.

“The officers did an excellent job in preventing any further injuries,” Sergeant G.L. Mattson said.

Three off-duty officers were patrolling the area and made a quick arrest. “The suspect was apprehended within seconds,” Sergeant Mattson said.

The shooter was taken to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for questioning.
