Mandarin High School principal alerts parents to possible threat

The principal of Mandarin High School sent a voice message to parents on Wednesday that alerted them to a possible threat.

POLK COUNTY: Girls plotted school attack, planned to leave body parts at entrance, police say

The voice message said a text message was circulating, saying at 1:30, there would be a surprise for MHS students.

The principal said that while there is no evidence to suggest the MHS in the text is referring to Mandarin High School, they were taking appropriate action.

Mandarin High School was placed on brief lockdown. It has since been lifted, according to the Duval County School District.

The lockdown was the most recent case of classes being disrupted at school. On Oct. 11, students were forced outside for most of the day while authorities investigated a threat.

The voice message said they have additional police on campus, but that there will be no changes to normal school operations as of now.

Here is script for the robocall sent to parents:

"Hello Parents and guardians of Mandarin High School,

This is principal Kniseley calling to alert you that we have just been made aware of a non-specific threat to an “MHS” circulating on text.

The threat says quote – at 1:30 there will be a surprise for you MHS students hope you brought safety with you – end quote.

While There is no evidence that the “MHS” is our Mandarin High School, we are investigating and taking appropriate precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all on campus.

These precautions include an additional police presence on campus.

Again, the purpose of this call is just to make you aware.

We do not anticipate any changes to our school operations as a result of this text.

If there are any changes to operations or dismissal, I will call you again as quickly as possible.

 Thank you and good bye."
