PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. - The body of man found in a Putnam County lake Wednesday evening has been identified by police as Kyle C. Parker of Hawthorne.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission took over the investigation Thursday morning after people found Parker dead in Cowpen Lake in Putnam County. But, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office called it a boating accident.

Marine units with the PCSO recovered Parker's body after receiving a call from a neighbor around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Deputies say a friend searched the lake for him, first finding his canoe and then his body.

"Apparently they found the canoe or boat, we believe it was a canoe earlier, and recovered that and shortly at some point thereafter they found the body. He was floating," said PCSO Sgt. Hancel Woods.

Authorities say the lake ranges in depth from two to seven feet and deputies believe this was all an accident.

“Initial indications are that it was a boating accident. That he was out alone in a boat apparently without a life preserver or a life jacket and there was some sort of boating accident and he ended up in the water and at this point in time that's really all that we know,” said Woods.

Deputies say the man’s canoe wasn't capsized or wrecked when it was found.

    This is an ongoing investigation.
