Jacksonville, FL. — Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has decided to extend the mask mandate for 30 days as part of the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new expiration date is Thursday, Nov. 26.
The executive order remains the same in that every person over the age of 6 who is in an indoor public space must wear a face covering when unable to social distance.
Action News Jax medical expert Dr. Michelle Aquino said mask wearing should continue regardless of government mandates.
“At this point, we should all know wearing masks decreased transmission of COVID,” Aquino said. “It helps keep you safe, keeps down hospitalizations and decreases deaths, so I think most of us with or without a mandate from government should be wearing masks at all times right now the way we’ve been doing it.”
