Mayor Lenny Curry, Sheriff Mike Williams and Jacksonville City Council members joined Walgreens Thursday to launch an expansion of safe medication disposal kiosks in the city.
These kiosks are now available year-round in more that 130 select Walgreens drugstores across Florida, including four in Jacksonville.
Safe medication disposal kiosks allow people to safely dispose of unwanted prescriptions, including controlled substances and over-the-counter medications at no cost.
Since the program began in 2016, more than 270 tons -- or the equivalent weight of about 150 cars -- of unwanted medication has been collected and safely disposed of.
The Jacksonville Walgreens that have safe medication disposal kiosks are located at:
- 7221 Normandy Blvd.
- 4297 Oldfield Dr.
- 6006 Bleach Blvd.
- 1801 N. Davis St.
