Men shot in head during Palatka attempted robbery, carjacking

A family friend tells Action News Jax these two young men were shot in the head early this morning.

Police say the first shooting happened at 4:13 a.m., off Bronson Street.

That’s where family friends say Zach Nelson was shot.

Then more than an hour later, just around the corner from the first shooting, police got a call of a second shooting, on North 23rd Street.

That’s where neighbors say a man named KJ was shot.

Family friend Antwaun Dallas says he mentored both of the young men who were shot.

“Just to wake up to that phone call it isn’t a good feeling,” said Dallas.

Police say the crime spree didn’t stop there, after the second shooting, they say a man named Julius Bunch carjacked a woman at North 16th and Eagle streets.

Police say Bunch took off and crashed at a McDonald's on Reid Street, but then kept driving west towards Interlachen.

That’s where the Putnam County Sheriffs Office used a device to puncture the tires, and arrest Bunch.

Bunch is also the primary person of interest in the two shootings.

Police say both men shot are in critical condition.
