Nassau County Business owners receive free PPE and cleaning supplies

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. —

Many businesses are still struggling from the pandemic, whether it’s COVID-related closures, occupancy limits, or even the cost of hand sanitizer and PPE.

Now they are getting some much needed help with free supplies.

Action News Jax’s Alicia Tarancon was at a special distribution for those items in Fernandina Beach.

One by one, Fernandina business owners picked up their boxes of supplies on Wednesday.

Pam James, the owner of Pelindaba Lavender, told me these supplies help to offset the cost for businesses struggling from being closed for months because of the pandemic.

“Any assistance is always greatly appreciated, but especially things that are very difficult to find now like some of the cleaners and stuff,” James said.

Andrea Wilson grabbed disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer for her daughter’s preschool.

“Knowing that the preschools can stay open and are clean and are sanitized is the utmost importance to us, because we are so grateful for the fact that our kids can just be back in school and be learning in a clean environment,” Wilson said.

Nassau County commissioners were able to take a portion of the Federal Cares Act funding to help pay for the supplies, and the Nassau County Chamber bought them.

The chamber told Action News Jax you must bring a utility bill or current business registration if you want to take part in the distribution, and each business is given supplies based on the number of employees.

James told us she’s thankful for the boxes of free supplies because it’ll help keep her customers happy and safer when they visit her shop.

“Paper towels especially to wipe things down, it helps, sanitizer, and additional masks because occasionally we have customers that come up and forgot their mask,” she said.
