Naval Station Mayport: Shooting reported on off-base housing

Police are investigating reports of a shooting in off-base housing near Naval Station Mayport, according to base officials.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting, which happened on Thursday night, Commanding Officer Capt. David Yoder said Friday.

Yoder said no one was hurt in the shooting and right now police are working to identify a motive.

He said the Navy has increased security and patrols in off-base housing and near child development centers.

Officers will be stationed at the entrances and exits to housing developments. Those officers may ask for your identification and why you're in the area, Yoder said.

Base officials are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Detective Smith at (904) 237-0289.
