Neighbors concerned about Sheffield Park after teens were shot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It has been more than 24 hours since two teenagers were shot at Sheffield Park, leaving one dead. The shooting happened around 9:15 p.m., Friday night.

There’s a pathway that leads deep into the woods at Sheffield Park, which is a concern for one neighbor who does not want to be identified.

“Everyone knows kids come out here and they party, to have a good time,” the neighbor said.

But Friday night was far from a good time, as blue lights blocked off the Sheffield Park. Witnesses tell Action News that two were First Coast High School students. One of them, Jaquon Reeves died.

Action News received tips that some teenagers were gathering to remember Johnell Johnson, when someone started shooting.

Johnson was shot and killed two weeks ago at a prom party for First Coast High School.

The neighbor says he told Jacksonville Sheriff's Office multiple times before, that the pathway was dangerous,

“When I talk to park services and JSO I told them the same thing, if you don’t invest a few thousand dollars now out of your budget either someone is going to get ran over and they are going to sue you. Or something is going to happen with kids,” the neighbor said.

JSO hasn’t officially confirmed the names of the victims. They did tell Action News they believe the shooting was gang-related but not retaliation for the shooting of Johnell Johnson.
