Neighbors help in case of Jacksonville woman who killed in hit-and-run on Shindler Drive

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police need the community's help finding a car that hit and killed a woman in the Jacksonville Heights area Sunday.

It happened on Shindler Drive near Bellrose Avenue.

TRENDING:

Julie Clancy lives just steps away from where the woman was found.

“There was a young lady on the road and my friend’s mom had heard it from her house and ran down here and gave her CPR,” said Clancy. “I noticed that her leg did not look right it was sort of bent in a different direction.”

JSO said the woman, who has yet to be identified, died at the hospital.

Clancy tells Action News Jax she doesn’t know the woman but has seen her in the neighborhood from time to time.

“I’ve always seen her get out of different cars and walk across the street and go into the people across the street house,” said Clancy.

According to Clancy, Shindler Drive is a dangerous roadway because drivers don’t respect the 40 mile per hour speed limit.

It’s something Action News Jax witnessed firsthand Monday as cars zoomed by while we gathered video for this story.

“They do 60, 65 we’ve had cars come out of the road into our yard,” said Clancy.

Clancy said the area has low lighting at night as well.

She said what she saw Sunday will stay with her and she’s hoping someone will come forward with information.

“I can’t fathom hitting anything, animal or person, and just keep going,” said Clancy.

JSO has very limited information on what type of car hit the woman so it’s not able to give a description.
