Driver 'inattentive' according to report released in 11 year-old hit and killed by car case

STORY: Stepfather says mother of child hit by car watched him take his last breath

New details have been released concerning the crash that claimed the life of 11-year-old Terry Bryant one month ago.

Action News Jax obtained an incident report that shed more light on what happened.

Terry was hit by a Kia on North University Boulevard and Windemere Drive minutes after he got off his school bus.

According to the report, Terry was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a car.

The report describes the driver as "careless," "negligent" and "inattentive." Terry’s family is searching for answers.

“You just get by yourself, and your mind just wonders, like, ‘Why?’” said Terry’s biological father Terry Bryant Sr.

It also states the driver seemed "apparently normal" and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Hearing the details, Terry’s mother believes the crash was avoidable.

“It was a senseless death,” she said. “Had she not been ‘inattentive’ my child would probably still be here today.”

Action News Jax's reporter Ryan Nelson spoke to the driver on the phone this evening.

She declined to comment but said she may share her story in the future.

We’re also waiting to hear back from JSO.

“I’m just waiting for answers,” said Terry’s stepfather Andante Brown, “…and if they can give me whatever they can at the moment to help ease our family’s mind.”
