Newly appointed Council member faces tough questions during Town Hall meeting

It wasn’t the warmest of welcomes for newly appointed District 10 Councilman Terrance Freeman.

Freeman faced a skeptical, at times even hostile crowd at a meeting aimed at getting to know his District 10 constituents.

He was appointed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to replace the suspended Reggie Brown, but has battled questions about his residency.

Those questions came up again on Thursday evening.

What makes you think you are more qualified than a candidate that lives in District 10 to represent them?” one woman asked.

A current lawsuit claims Freeman should not have been appointed, because he was not living in District 10 at the time.

The Supervisor of Elections said he changed his address the day after he was sworn in.

Freeman told the audience he and his family now live in a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house within the district.

He is also a Republican, another point of contention in a predominately Democratic district.

One woman asked Freeman whether Mayor Lenny Curry pushed him to apply for the position. Freeman said the Mayor was never involved.
