One suspect in the hospital, another arrested after officer-involved shooting on the Northside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One suspect is in the hospital and another is behind bars after an officer involved shooting on the Northside on Lem Turner Road on Saturday.

JSO told Action News Jax us both suspects are believed to be involved in several armed robberies around the area.

Ryan Flemming owns Dream Big Carwash along Soutel Drive and on Sunday morning he was surprised to learn that police shot a robbery suspect near his business as they were conducting an undercover investigation on Lem Turner Road.

“Nothing like a police involved shooting or a shooting… you know it’s a pretty good neighborhood,” said Flemming.

On Saturday police say at around 9:00 p.m. they saw two men that matched the description of armed robbery suspects they were looking for and they told the men to get down on the ground.

One suspect did and was taken into custody. Police say he was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect took off running and police opened fire after another officer yelled out “gun.”

JSO says the robberies took place on Friday and Saturday and when we first got out here we noticed the red crime scene tape that was still in the parking lot of this Footlocker on Soutel Drive.

Action News Jax checked several businesses and homes in the area for surveillance video.

A church down the street did record this video of cop cars and flashing lights but because of where the cameras are it’s hard to see exactly what happened.

Flemming says his carwash doesn’t have any security cameras but after this recent robbery arrest he’ll consider putting some up.

“We definitely have to get surveillance cameras and do a little better job as far as like surveillance around here,” said Flemming.

JSO says none of their officers were hurt in Saturday’s shooting.

We are reaching out to JSO to see if police officers were wearing any body cameras when they made the arrest.

Once we hear back we’ll update you both online and on air.
