One teen dead, two hurt in Nassau ATV crash

CALLAHAN, Fla. — Maplewood Court, in Nassau County, is usually quiet. The only traffic is typically from those who live there. Saturday evening was a different story.

At 4:40 p.m., the driver of a Honda Rancher all terrain vehicle, carrying three riders lost control and collided with a brick mailbox, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Everyone was thrown from the ATV. They were all later transported to UF Shands Hospital.

Donovon Parker, 18, of Bryceville died at the hospital. Gabrielle Fennell, 16, is in critical condition. The driver, 16-year-old Rylee Martin, has minor injuries.

No one was wearing a helmet.

Bob Arnold has lived on Maplewood for the last 20 years and says he knows the family who owns the Rancher.

“I felt sick, especially at this time of year, Thanksgiving.” Arnold said. Action News Jax reporter, Meghan Moriarty, asked Arnold if he was shocked. He said, “Yes, and hurt.”

Arnold said the ATV's owner’s daughter had friends over, and they were riding the ATV down the street, which is common in this area.

“It’s a shame that one of her friends is involved.” Arnold said.

FHP tells Action News Jax there are no charges at this time, but the crash is under investigation.
