Owner upset Clay County sheriff's deputy kills her dog

The Clay County Sheriff's Office posted to it's Facebook page Wednesday saying that during an "attempt to contact" call, a deputy shot and killed a dog because he was afraid of being bitten.

The CCSO said the deputies were dispatched due to a woman potentially being held against her will and when they arrived, two large dogs were released from the house as the deputies approached it.

The owner of the dogs replied to the post saying that her dog was shot in the back as he was running in the opposite direction after he slipped past her and out of the door when she opened it.

Photos on the owner's Facebook page show the back seat of a car smeared with blood and states that her dog died after being shot in the back by Clay County Sheriff's deputies.

Action News Jax reached out to the owner, but she is waiting to make an official statement until she has a lawyer.

The CCSO Facebook post also asked citizens to remember that dogs must be secured when law enforcement officers arrive.
