Parents demanding answers after ‘SkyFlyer' ride malfunctions at Jacksonville Fair

Parents want to know how and why the "SkyFlyer" ride malfunctioned Saturday, resulting in injuries to at least five people, including children.

Nearly two dozen people were on the ride at the time.

Mother of three Lakeria Finley tells us her 9-year-old daughter Ka-Morah Finley was among the people injured on the ride.

Lakeria is expecting her fourth child, a girl, in the near future.

She tells us Ka-Morah was hospitalized after being injured on the swing-style ride "SkyFlyer."

“My baby said it felt like ‘bumper cars,’” said Finley. “She was wondering, was this even supposed to be happening?”

The little girl is now recovering at home.

“As soon as it hit the guardrail, it just hopped up and hit my baby in her lower chest, and breaks her rib,” said Finley.

She tells us the 9-year old, who also suffered a collapsed lung and jammed shoulder, has no interest in returning to the fair.

“She’s emotionally, mentally and physically, shot!” said Finley.

Shawn Hall told only Action News Jax Saturday he grabbed the machine, bringing it to a halt, after the ride’s operator cut the power.

Hall is a former defensive lineman in the NFL. Hall said his daughter is recovering from bruises to her legs, but he feared her condition may be worse.

They’re anxiously awaiting the results of the investigation by the Department of Agriculture.

Spokesperson Jenn Meale in a statement reading in part, "SkyFlyer" "will remain closed until the investigation into the cause of the accident is complete.”

Finley warned other parents to avoid fair rides -- she says her 10-year-old niece was also on the ride and is now on crutches.
