Permit issued for development on Jacksonville's Southside

Jacksonville’s Southside could soon get even busier.

The St. Johns County River Water Management issued permits to Sawmill Timber to develop 1,066 acres at the corner of Interstate 295 and Butler Blvd.

The property is located near Kernan Blvd. and not far from the St. Johns Town Center.

Right now, the property is used to grow and harvest timber.

Sawmill Timber, owned by members of the Skinner family, said the proposed mixed-used project would bring offices, retail and residential spaces.

A member of the Skinner family told Action News Jax the property has been in their family for the past 120 years and has sentimental value.

They said there is strong interest in the property and they are already talking with several developers.
