The person of interest in the murder of an actress and model from Jacksonville is now in jail.
Alfredo Capote has been on the run since last July’s shooting of Jokisha Brown in Atlanta.
Brown's mother told Action News Jax’s Larry Spruill that she knew her daughter's ex-boyfriend had something to do with her murder.
Police said Capote is only listed as a person of interest in Brown's death right now, but he is charged with her kidnapping and rape that police say happened three months before her murder.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department said Capote was arrested at an apartment complex in Caddo Parish, Louisiana.
Deputies went to the apartment after connecting him to an ongoing counterfeit check operation. He was arrested at the complex but also charged with the rape, armed robbery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault of Brown, dating back to April 2016.
Three months later, Brown was murdered in Atlanta outside a strip mall, and her family said back then they believed Capote was involved.
We spoke with Brown's mother just days after the murder. She didn't want to show her name or face on camera for safety reasons, but she said she wasn't going to give up in finding her daughter's killer.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is working with Atlanta Police Department in the murder investigation.
