Police: Man shot, killed at home on Nixon Street in Jacksonville, 3 arrested

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 7/24/2019 - The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said that they have arrested three men suspected of shooting and killing a man on Nixon Street. The Sheriff's Office said the men suspected for the killing allegedly went to the house to rob it.

A man is dead following a shooting in Jacksonville's Mixon Town area Monday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police and first responders were called to a home in the 300 block of Nixon Street around 4 a.m. due to reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a man inside suffering from a gunshot wound. Officials said he died at the scene. According to JSO, there were six people inside the home when the shooting happened.

Police say six other adults were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They believe all of them live at this residence and were detained for questioning.

A vehicle with three people inside was seen leaving the area when police arrived. They were stopped and detained.

Police say they are interviewing them to determine the involvement they might have had in the shooting. The case is being investigated as a homicide, JSO said.

Action News Jax reporter Elizabeth Pace spoke to neighbors in the area who said this incident is not the first time police have been called to the home.

They say they are frustrated with the crime.

“There’s so much murder going on, so much violence going on, when are we going to stop this and realize we need each other,” neighbor Avery Evans said.

Pace researched crime in the area using the JSO crime map and found an aggravated assault and battery reported in the neighborhood in the past week.
