The Clay County Sheriff's Office is asking for the community's help to find an armed suspect in the Oakleaf area after deputies say the man pointed a gun at a young woman off Drysdale Drive overnight Sunday.

“There’s three entrances to the neighborhood. There were cop cars -- at least two -- blocking every entrance to our neighborhood,” said neighbor Malcolm Culpepper.

Action News Jax spoke to the victim off-camera. She tells us after she got off work, a man in a ski mask approached her and pointed a gun at her head.

She says the man followed her to her door and then took off.

Culpepper says there are car break-ins that happen in the neighborhood, but he’s not used to hearing about more violent crime like this.

“We lock the cars, remove our valuables, but now it’s gotten more aggressive,” said Culpepper.

Action News Jax was there as Sheriff Darryl Daniels did a neighborhood walk in the Tanglewood area.

When we asked him about the young woman’s encounter, he doubled down on his warning to criminals in his community.

“If you’re thinking about committing crimes in Clay County, you might want to consider going somewhere else,” said Sheriff Daniels.

He says he will exhaust every resource at his disposal to catch the man who did this.

Until then, neighbors say they’re on the lookout for anyone suspicious and will have their lights on Monday night.

The gunman was last seen near the 500 block of Drysdale Lane. He is described as a white man who is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build.

He was last seen wearing a ski mask, a black jacket with a red emblem, blue jeans and dark colored shoes, according to Clay County police.

Authorities said the man displayed a handgun to a victim and fled on foot.

If you know of the man's whereabouts, you are asked to call the Communications Section at 904-264-6512 or call 911.
