Possible shark attack at Jax Beach

Jacksonville Beach Police Department said a female was bitten by something while she was swimming about 10 feet out in the water on Friday evening near the 3700 block of First Street.

Jacksonville Beach Lifeguard Station Captain Rob Emahiser responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. He arrived as a fire rescue team was bandaging the victim's leg.

JBPD could not confirm that it was a shark, but the victim said a shark bit her. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution with minor lacerations to her leg.

Emahiser did not see the wound but said it was more than likely a small shark that bit her.
