Power restored in Clay County after major outage

7 A.M. UPDATE: Power has been restored in Clay County, following a major outage Monday morning.

Originally, over 40,000 customers were without power.

Officials say a "fault at the Black Creek substation" caused the outage.

All schools have power, according to Clay County Schools.

Action News Jax has received several tips about a power outage in Clay County.

As of 6:07 a.m. Monday, approximately 42,191 people are affected, according to the Clay Electric outage map.

A spokesperson at Clay Electric says the large number of outages could be a result of "shifting loads," which can result in relatively brief outages.

Residents in Clay County say they are experiencing outages in the following areas:

  • Oakleaf
  • Orange Park
  • Blanding Boulevard
  • Middleburg
  • Lake Asbury
  • Heritage Hills neighborhood near Orange Park High School
  • Ridgecrest
  • Grove Park

We are working to gather more information on what caused the outage, when power will be restored and any updates on if schools will be affected.
