Projects in the works to help reduce traffic and fatalities at busy intersection

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The intersection of Beach and Southside boulevards is getting a major makeover.

Action News Jax first reported about the potential changes on their way in April and now, the Florida Department of Transportation, has a construction plan in place to hopefully reduce congestion and fatalities.

Projects in the Works to Help Reduce Traffic and Fatalities at Busy Intersection

"We've definitely heard the horns a bit, heard a couple crashes, " Russell Tully, general manager of College Hunks Hauling, said Tuesday. His business sits on Beach Boulevard and he says he's seen his fair share of crashes.

It is considered one of the most dangerous intersections for pedestrians. According to the FDOT, there are about 95 crashes each year in that intersection. The hope is that FDOT's project will help reduce that number by 10%.

"These changes will just help improve the safety," said Sara Pleasants, with FDOT. "And, give all people, whether they're on foot, on bike, in the car, the opportunities, the roadway safety."
