Prosecutor: Mott had guns, bloody knife when he was caught

The Duval County teen accused of killing his grandmother could stay in a New York jail for months.

On Friday, Logan Mott's attorney will either waive the hearing -- allowing the 15-year-old to return to Florida -- or fight extradition.

The request comes the same day prosecutors said Kristina French, 53, was stabbed and shot. They also said Mott had a bloody knife and guns when he was caught.

In a newly-released 911 call, Mott's father said he returned to his home on Seagate Avenue in Neptune Beach to find guns missing from his safe.

The guns were gone -- along with his son and mother.

"Do you think you can have a patrol officer dispatched to my house?" Mott's father told a dispatcher.  "I know I've had a burglary. My supposed to pick me up from the airport, and my diabetic son are missing."

French's friend Mike Kaufmann was disgusted to hear of the way she died.

"That's just a terrible way to die, and it seems so out of character for her to be in any kind of situation," Kaufmann said. "It makes me wonder what kind of problems the grandson was having in life."

Action News Jax obtained court filings from 2004 through June 2016. They show Mott's parents were embroiled in a lengthy custody battle.

In 2014, Mott told the Department of Children and Families that his father spanked him and left "heavy red marks on his body" and made him long distances, to the point he "threw up."

DCF said it would continue the investigation, and no further law enforcement action was requested.

Action News Jax Law and Safety Expert Dale Carson said these are all factors investigators will look into as they work to learn more about the teenager accused of murdering his own grandmother.
