Putnam County deputies take man into custody in cockfighting ring bust

PALATKA, Fla. — A man was taken into custody and more than 200 chickens were pulled from a home in a cockfighting ring bust on Friday night.

Deputies were initially called to a home on Lettie Lane for a a domestic disturbance They said during their investifation, they said they discovered what appeared to be a large breeding operation for fighting gamecocks..

Deputies found some 200 chickens, spurs and other paraphernalia associated with gamecocks.

According to deputies, the chickens were taken to a safe location.

Oriel Casrto Royero, 47, was arrested and charged Friday with selling or posseing an animal to fight or bait, possession of equipment used in animal fighting and possession of property used for the purpose of training and fighting animals, deputies said.
