Putnam County father determined to find out who shot his dogs

A Florida father says someone shot both of his dogs near his home in Putnam County.

Chris Gay lives in Pomona Park. He says he got home Sunday and found his dog Sadie under his porch.

“Got her out from underneath the porch, that’s when I seen the gunshot,” he said. “Large caliber to her right shoulder.”

Gay said he took Sadie, a mastiff, to the vet. Her leg was shattered and needed to be amputated.

Gay said his family made the tough decision to have her put down.

Gay searched for his other dog, a Boston terrier named Max, and couldn’t find him.

He said a neighbor found Max on Old Welaka Road the next day.

“He had a single gunshot wound to the top of the head. Close range,” he said “It was an execution.”

He said his neighbor’s dog, which ran around with Max and Sadie, appeared to have been grazed by a bullet.

He said both of his dogs loved humans and were not aggressive.

He doesn’t know who would’ve wanted to hurt them.

“It’s one thing if you're defending yourself or defending even your livestock or something but these dogs don’t mess with nothing,” Gay said.

He said his 2-year-old son keeps asking where Max and Sadie are.

“Every time we come outside, ‘Where’s MaxMax, where’s Sadie?’ Buddy, they’re in heaven sleeping right now," Gay said.

He’s sharing his story on social media in hopes that someone with information about who shot them will come forward.
