Palatka, Fla. — A war veteran was honored in Palatka on Thursday night with the Hometown Hero Award from the city as part of Black History Month.
Granvel “Hoppy” Hopkins, 88, is both a Purple Heart and Bronze Medal of Valor recipient.
Hopkins began serving at the end of World War II cleaning up concentration camps.
He then went on to fight in both Korea and Vietnam.
His daughter says he doesn’t like to receive attention for his service because -- he just did his job.
But “Hoppy” we’d like to extend our appreciation to you for your service.
