Recap: Jacksonville election 2019 results

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the Jacksonville elections come to a close, Action News Jax keeps you updated with the latest results.

Mayor Lenny Curry won re-election, making it his second term in Jacksonville.

"We've got a lot of work to do in four short years," Curry said. "You will not recognize downtown in four years."

Jacksonville mayoral candidate Anna Brosche gave her concession speech, saying she was disappointed in the outcome of the election.

"The beauty of us coming together the last week has been such an uplifting and inspiring experience for me and I think for all of us. And I think that’s what makes Jax a better city," Brosche said.

Brosche said she was thankful to have been able to connect with so many different parts of Jacksonville, hearing the needs and hopes for the city.

Sheriff Mike Williams also won re-election Tuesday night. He choked up while talking about how proud he is of his 3,000 Jacksonville Sheriff's Office employees.

“I simply could not be more proud of the over 3,000 men and women of JSO -- sworn officers, corrections officers and civilian staff that work to protect the near million people in Jacksonville every hour, every day,” Williams said.

Action News Jax asked Williams what he would tell the 56,000 people who voted for his opponent.

“As I said in the first election, if you didn’t support me the first time, I’m going to work double hard in these next four years to make sure that I am your sheriff. I work on that every single day,” said Williams.

Williams’ Democratic opponent Tony Cummings released a statement that reads in part, “We did not get the results that we were looking for, but our vision, I'm sure, did not go unnoticed by the establishment.”

A handful of candidates for City Council ran unopposed. They were: Rory Diamond, for District 13, Danny Becton, for District 11, Leanna Cumber, for District 5 and Aaron Bowman, for District 3.
