Registration open for 2nd annual Vystar Emerald Trail 5K

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 2nd annual Vystar Emerald Trail 5K will take place in Hogan’s Creek next Saturday.

The run, presented by JTC Running and 1st Place Sports, will take runners, walkers and cyclists through Springfield and along sections of the future S-Line Connector and Hogans Creek segments of the Emerald Trail.

Organizers say all race costs are being underwritten by JTC Running, allowing 100% of the proceeds to benefit Groundwork Jacksonville.

Registration is $35 through October 17, $40 through October 22 and $50 on race day. Youth under 13 and seniors over 65 get a special discounted rate.

Register at 1stplacesports.com/races/emeraldtrail/.

Once complete, the 30 mile Emerald Trail will connect 14 Jacksonville neighborhoods, 16 schools, and 21 parks. It would also connect the Riverwalk, the Shipyards, and the sports complex.

In May, Action News Jax told you Jacksonville City Councilmember, Matt Carlucci intended to introduce an amendment that would redirect $150 million in the city’s newly-approved gas tax funding from the Skyway conversion project to be used instead on the development of the Emerald Trail.

The following month Jacksonville’s City Council announced they had approved the purchase of the first property for the multi-million dollar project.
