Report: I-95 near Jacksonville most dangerous stretch of highway

At least two semitrailers were part of at least four crashes on I-95 in Saint Johns County Wednesday.

The collisions were essentially next to each other in the northbound and southbound lanes on the interstate between SR 206 and SR 207.

Both crashes shut down parts of the busy interstate for hours during the morning rush hour.

First responders said one person was air-lifted to a local hospital in serious condition, while another patient was taken by ground to a different hospital and was stable as of Wednesday morning.

The website Value Penguin lists I-95 from Florida to Maine as the third most dangerous road in the country, with about 55 deadly crashes per 100 miles.

The site names Jacksonville as the deadliest city on the route.

“Our officers work day in and day out to keep everyone safe on our highways and roadways,” Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan said, “We’re working on enforcement and education, so that’s part of that.”

A Florida Department of Transportation spokesperson tells Action News Jax relieving some of the traffic on I-95 in Saint Johns County is happening in the year 2023.

That’s when crews will start adding four lanes on the interstate between the I-295 interchange and International Golf Parkway as part of a toll expressway.
