Report: St. Johns County teen arrested for making a bomb threat

Deputies in St. Johns County say a 14-year-old student is responsible for two school threats in recent weeks.

The St. Augustine High School student is charged as a juvenile, but facing two felonies.

The most recent threat was on Wednesday.

“It’s not cool. It’s not funny. And it definitely should be dealt with, for sure,” said St. Augustine High School senior Juan Coello.

Coello said the threats of violence at his school are no joke.

“It’s something serious,” he said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old student admitted to deputies he wrote two threats on a bathroom wall.

The first threatened a school shooting just days after the massacre in Parkland.

The second was a bomb threat on Wednesday, prompting a lockdown on campus.

Deputies said surveillance video at the school led them to the 14-year-old. Coello said he doesn't’t think this will be the end of hoax threats at his school.

“There’s tons of kids that are going to be kids, and they think it’s funny to see people being scared,” said Coello.

Katinka Bartelink, whose granddaughter goes to St. Augustine High School, said she wants to see the school take more precautions.

“At airports now, we have metal detectors. And I really think that maybe we should start with something like that,” said Bartelink.

Wednesday’s bomb threat was St. Johns County’s third school threat in the past two days, according to the sheriff’s office.
